One of the most unsettling things about doing up a house is having to make do without a kitchen. Rather than resigning yourself to takeaways every night, borrow an electric frying pan and a gas ring if you don’t already have them and have a go at turning out this dish. It’ll keep you healthy, sane and on budget.
1.Mix cornflour, water, soy sauce and sesame oil together in a small bowl.
2.Heat a wok over high heat, then add 2 tablespoon oil. Swirl oil around the insides of the wok. When the oil is really hot (hazing), add beef slices. Fry for 1-2 minutes, until meat has lost its pinkness and is lightly browned. Tip beef onto a side plate and season with salt.
3.Reheat the wok, add 1 tablespoon oil, and when oil is hot add red pepper and chillies. Stir-fry for 1 minute, then add spring onions, ginger and garlic. Stir-fry for 30 seconds, return beef to wok, adding any juices, then stir in cornflour and soy sauce mixture. Bring to a bubble, cook for 1 minute, then serve immediately. If liked, sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.
