1.Preheat oven to 170°C/340°F. Grease a deep 22cm square cake pan; line base and sides with baking paper, extending the paper 5cm over sides.
2.Stir chocolate and butter in a medium saucepan over low heat until smooth. Stir in dates. Transfer mixture to a medium bowl; cool 10 minutes.
3.Whisk eggs and sugar into chocolate mixture, then stir in ground almonds and sifted flour and cocoa. Pour mixture into pan; sprinkle with nuts.
4.Bake brownies about 35 minutes. Cool brownies in pan before cutting. Dust with a little extra cocoa powder.
