Apple and cinnamon squares

There is nothing more satisfying than freshly baked goods wafting with scents of apple and cinnamon. These buns are perfect for morning teas, desserts for the family and kids lunches!

Ingredients

Method

1.Preheat oven to 220°C (200°C fan-forced). Lightly grease a scone tray. Sift flour and cinnamon into a large bowl. Add butter. Rub in lightly using fingertips. Stir in brown sugar.
2.Add apples and combined milk and egg. Using a bread and butter knife, mix quickly to a soft, sticky dough. Do not over-mix.
3.Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly. Press or roll out to form a square about 2cm thick. Cut into squares using a floured knife.
4.Place scones close together on a prepared tray. Brush with a little extra milk and sprinkle each with combined caster sugar and extra cinnamon. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until scones sound hollow when tapped. Cool on a wire rack.

You need about 1 cup grated apple. If preferred, sprinkle with prepared cinnamon sugar.
