Beef lasagne

A much-loved family favourite, lasagne is a classic Italian pasta dish that is baked in the oven. Layered with thin, pasta sheets, flavoursome beef mince and topped with a cheesy, creamy sauce, it makes a warming dinner any night of the week.

Ingredients

Bechamel sauce

Method

1.Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced). Lightly grease a medium baking dish.
2.Heat oil in frying pan on high. Saute onion and garlic 1-2 minutes, until tender. Add mince and brown well for 4-5 minutes, breaking up lumps with the back of a spoon as it browns. Add mushrooms and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes. Blend in tomato and wine. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, simmer 8-10 minutes until thickened. Season to taste.
3.To make bechamel sauce: Melt butter in a pan on high. Add flour, stirring, for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Gradually blend in milk until smooth. Return to heat. Cook, stirring, until sauce boils and thickens. Simmer for 3 minutes. Season to taste.
4.Place 1 lasagne sheet in dish and cut to fit. Spoon over half the mince and half the white sauce. Sprinkle with quarter of combined cheeses, Repeat. Finish with pasta.
5.Whisk together cream and egg. Season to taste. Pour over lasagne.
6.Back 30-35 minutes. Stand for 5 minutes. Serve with salad.

Leftover lasagne sheets can be frozen for later use. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap first to prevent freezer burn.
