Method
1.Place eggs in a medium saucepan; cover with cold water.
2.Stirring gently (this helps centre yolks), bring to the boil over moderate heat. Reduce heat to low; simmer, without stirring, 10 minutes, to hard-boil.
3.Remove eggs from water and immediately place under cold running water. Stand eggs in a bowl of cold water 30 minutes, to cool completely (this prevents a grey rim forming around yolk).
4.Meanwhile, place 4 medium bowls on a work bench. Place 2 cups warm water and 2 teaspoons vinegar into each bowl. Drop about 40 drops of each colour into bowls (the deeper the colour, the more effective the result).
5.Place elastic bands around eggs. Place eggs in bowls of coloured water; stand 10 minutes to absorb colour. Occasionally roll eggs gently to achieve even colouring.
6.Using a slotted spoon, transfer eggs to paper towels to dry. Remove elastic bands from eggs.
Use rubber gloves to avoid staining hands. Try using strips of sticky tape instead of elastic bands, which can be tricky to keep on. No elastic bands? No problem, just dye eggs as instructed.
