Apple turnovers

A simple family favourite, apple turnovers are bursting with fresh fruit, are easy to make and delicious served hot from the oven.

Ingredients

Method

1.Melt butter in a large frying pan on medium. Cook apple, stirring occasionally, for 4-5 minutes until golden.
2.Stir in maple syrup, sugar, and cinnamon and cook, stirring, for 4-5 minutes until liquid boils and thickens.
3.Transfer mixture to a bowl. Stir in sultanas and almonds. Set aside for 15 minutes to cool, then chill until mixture is cold.
4.Preheat oven to hot, 200°C (180°C fan-forced). Cut each pastry sheet into 4 even squares.
5.Spoon 2 tablespoons apple mixture onto one half of each pastry square. Brush edges with egg. Fold pastry over filling to form a triangle, pressing edges to seal. Brush with remaining egg.
6.Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden. Dust with icing sugar and serve with ice cream.

To prevent turnovers from opening, seal edges firmly using a fork.
