The Block NZ teams swap DIY for cooking in the Dinner Wars challenge

The Block NZ teams put their brand spanking new kitchens and dining rooms to the test in the Dinner Wars challenge.

While some teams took the opportunity to flex their culinary muscles, others struggled to incorporate the allocated ingredients into their meals.

Each team was given three ingredients from the opposing teams to create their meals – some more difficult than others.

Julia and Ali whip up a gourmet feast

The Blue Team were lumped with some of the most difficult ingredients in the challenge including venison, truffles and condensed milk. Despite this, the girls proved they have some real talent, creating a menu starring:

• Seared scallops with a pineapple salsa

• Venison with shaved truffles

• Condensed milk and triple chocolate brownie with freeze dried mandarins, strawberries and ice cream

Andy and Nate work against the odds

The Yellow Team had the tough task of sourcing West Coast whitebait as one of their allocated ingredients. Despite having never cooked or eaten whitebait fritters, Andy and Nate took it in their stride and managed to whip up a three course meal without any major dramas (other than the alliances set to mark their efforts down).

• Whitebait fritters

• Roast lamb with roast veges and salad

• Sauteed pineapple with ice cream

Ling and Zing take the laid back approach

The Purple Team had the upper hand with ‘easy’ ingredients so it was no surprise that the boys approached the meal in their typical laid back style. Their no-frills menu included:

• French stick with peanut butter and a side of crayfish

• Duck carbonara

• Ice cream and lollies

Stace and Yanita go all in on entrées

Rather than building a meal with their allocated ingredients, the Orange Team shoved them all in their first course. This created an entrée heavy meal that proved to be a hit with some and a miss for others.

• Beef schnitzel marinated in peanut butter, pork belly, ceviche and corn chips and guacamole

• Enchiladas and salad
