The doughnut ice cream cone craze
It’s a dessert that’s cropping up all over Instagram, and understandably so – a towering cone of deep-fried doughnut batter, dusted in cinnamon and sugar and filled with soft-serve ice cream, it’s a food gram made in heaven.
So where is this trend originating from?
We’re calling it a doughnut ice cream cone, but this sweet treat is actually a Trdelnik, also known as chimney cakes, a traditional Slovak pastry.
A trdelnik is commonly found on the streets of Prague, where the spiralled pastry is presented in storefronts throughout the city.
It’s made from rolled dough that is then wrapped around a stick, grilled and topped with sugar and walnut mix.
While people have been heading to Good Food Coffee and Bakery in Prague to experience the goodness, the doughnut cone has landed nearer to home with places such as Milky Lane in Bondi, Sydney also serving the confection.
