Misters Real Food

Misters Real Food (pictured above) is an inner city Auckland eatery that caters to those with dairy and gluten intolerances. I’m neither (thank goodness) but I still seriously adore their food. Easy, fast, wholesome and so delicious. Their menu changes with the season so get in quick to sample their winter one! Find them at 12 Wyndham Street.

Loaded fries

Need I say more? Pictured: Roaming Dive’s Carne Asada Fries – thin slice marinated meat mixed in with cheesy fries topped with yoghurt sour cream sauce, gravy, salsa and salsa verde, served on a warmed tortilla. The Roaming Dive is a food truck, check their Facebook page for where to find them facebook.com/theroamingdive.

Coffee with a conscience

Coffix coffee shop in New Market have been serving amazing coffee from their wee shop since mid-2015 and have recently transitioned to using 100% fair trade, organic coffee beans. Nothing super unusual there, but get this – they only charge $2.50 per coffee! Owners Anna and Gareth are as lovely as their coffee – go see them! They’re at 442 Khyber Pass Rd.

Homemade chicken and garlic soup

I love making a big batch of homemade chicken and garlic soup to keep the winter chills at bay. I keep mine really simple and classic – just chicken, stock, garlic, leek, celery and carrot, served with crusty fresh bread slathered in Lewis Road Creamery salted butter.

The Shady Shack

I’ve recently returned from a holiday in Bali and while the beaches and sunshine were nothing short of amazing, the food was by far the highlight. The up-and-coming hipster/surfer town of Canggu has some epic spots to eat. My favourites were Betelnut Cafe, The Shady Shack & Little Flinders Café (who also happen to do a mean espresso martini!).

Deco eatery

Deco eatery is my favourite local cafe. The interior fit out is amazing, the coffee is awesome and the food is next level. My go-to order is the Crispy Potato Rosti which comes with poached eggs, hollandaise and bacon. Located in the heart of Titirangi village at Lopdell House, 418 Titirangi Road, Auckland.

Bird on a Wire

Sometimes you just want something quick, tasty, bready and fried for lunch and when I’m feeling this way I head to Bird on a Wire and get their chicken schnitzel baguette – panko-crumbed chicken, lemony mayo, salty capers and slaw. Yes.
