Subtly sweet and sour, this classic whiskey sour recipe is a wonderfully light and refreshing drink that's perfect for summery evenings

Method

Whiskey sour

1.Place ice, whiskey, lemon juice and sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker, then shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled glass.
2.Garnish drink with a slice of lemon and a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately.

Sugar syrup

3.Combine ingredients in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
4.Bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Cool.
5.Store in the refrigerator for up to one month and use to make a Margarita, Whiskey Sour or Pomegranate Caipiroska. Makes 350ml.
