To celebrate this savoury staple, we took on the not-so-tough task of finding the best petrol station pie in Auckland.

While New Zealand’s best pie was declared as a venison, mushroom, bacon and cheese creation at this year’s Pie Awards, for most of us pie time means a trackpanted trip to the nearest servo.

So, which service station has the best pie?

Our team of seasoned pie aficionados set out to taste test mince and cheese pies from three different central Auckland gas stations.

Judging criteria included make-or-break categories such as mince-to-cheese ratio, pastry and temperature.
