Must visit: Mt Eden’s Corner Burger

A classic corner spot in Auckland’s Mt Eden has been transformed into a beautifully-landscaped burger bar.

The site has housed an airforce hangar, service station and dairy in its time, and last year was redesigned to host Auckland’s second Corner Burger outlet.

Paying tribute to the building’s heritage was important to the Corner Burger team. “Our intention was to keep as much of the original building on show as possible,” says co-owner Charles Belcher. “It’s a beautiful site with a lot of history.”

Award-winning interior designers Material Creative were enlisted to execute the team’s vision. The interior evokes a retro American burger joint, with a luxe twist. Tables, booths and custom wallpaper were designed by Material Creative, while hand-blown glass lights were made by Luke Jacomb.

“Our hope is that the experience is as gourmet as the burgers,” Charles says.

Outside, a garden of Eden concept was fitting, as there are views of Mt Eden from the seating area. Charles worked with Material Creative and Plant Hire to create the lush landscaped look. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy an evening of burgers and beers – plus loaded fries and a Snickers shake.
