Spicy pear loaf

Spicy pear loaf can be iced for a sweet treat or served warm with lashings of butter.

Method

1.Preheat the oven to 160°C. Line a 24cm x 13cm loaf tin with baking paper.
2.Cream the butter and sugar, then add vanilla and the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
3.Fold in the sieved flour, baking powder and spices, then the milk and finally the pears.
4.Spoon mixture into the prepared loaf tin and bake for 50–60 minutes or until cooked. Cool on a wire rack, then ice or serve warm with lashings of butter.
5.To make the icing, mix all ingredients together until smooth, then pour over the cooled loaf.
