Scalloped potatoes
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled and halved
  • 60 gram butter, chopped
  • 1 kilogram potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup (250ml) milk
  • grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup (60g) grated swiss cheese

    Preheat oven to 180°C. Rub a shallow ovenproof dish with garlic. Butter dish generously. Lay potato slices in dish.

    Bring milk to a boil, then remove from heat instantly. Add nutmeg, then season to taste. Pour over potatoes in dish. Sprinkle with cheese and dot with remaining butter.

    Bake for 55-60 minutes, until potatoes are tender and golden. Cover with foil if potatoes are browning too quickly. Serve.
