Choc berry shortcakes

Are these not the ideal Valentine's Day dessert? Chocolate shortcake hearts send a message of love, especially when teamed with cream and berries.

Ingredients

Method

1.Preheat oven to hot, 200°C. Line an oven tray with baking paper.
2.In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar together until pale and creamy. Fold in flour and chocolate alternately with milk. Mix to form a stiff dough.
3.Roll dough out onto a lightly floured surface to form a round 5mm thick.
4.Using a 6cm pastry cutter, cut twelve 9cm hearts or rounds. Place on prepared tray. Bake for 8-10 minutes until crisp and golden. Cool completely on tray.
5.When ready to serve, spread a little mascarpone onto one shortcake. Sprinkle with berries. Top with a second cake, then dust with cocoa. Repeat with remaining shortcakes.
