1.Heat oil in a large saucepan over moderate heat. Cook and stir onion and garlic for 5 minutes or until golden. Add thyme and tomato; bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer, uncovered, for 40 minutes or until sauce is thick.
2.Meanwhile, cook pasta in plenty of boiling salted water for 12 minutes or until tender but still firm to the bite. Drain.
3.Add basil to sauce; cook and stir for 5 minutes. Season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Serve pasta topped with sauce and sprinkled with cheese.
