Method
1.Preheat oven to moderately slow 160°C (140°C fan-forced). Cut beef into 3cm pieces.
2.Heat oil in flameproof 2.5-litre (10 cup) casserole dish, cook beef, in batches, stirring, until browned. Remove from dish.
3.Add onion, garlic and spices to same dish, cook, stirring, until onion is soft. Return beef to dish with remaining ingredients, bring to a boil.
4.Transfer dish to oven, bake, covered, in moderately slow oven about 2 hours or until beef is tender.
