Steak sandwich

There are few things more enjoyable than a steak sandwich. This version has the lot ... meat, onion, egg, cheese and crunchy salad. The ciabatta bread gives the meal a touch of class but a dollop of sauce and a bowl of hot chips ensures it remains true to its roots.

Ingredients

Method

1.Preheat a lightly oiled barbecue plate or large frying pan on high.
2.Cook onion for 8-10 minutes or until golden and tender. Remove from heat. Cover to keep warm. On same plate or pan, fry eggs in oiled egg rings, until just set. Set aside.
3.Meanwhile, cook steaks for 1-2 minutes each side or until cooked to taste.
4.Toast bread on both sides on the barbecue or in a toaster. Spread 4 slices with sauce. Top with cheese, tomato, beetroot, steak, onion, egg and salad leaves, then remaining bread slice. Serve with hot chips.

Steak can be replaced with a chick breast schnitzel or with a large field mushroom to make a vegetarian meal.
