Method

1.Preheat oven to 200°C or 180°C fan. Grease and flour a baking tray. Sift flour and 1 teaspoon salt into a bowl. Rub in butter with fingertips, until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Make a well in centre, add milk and water. Mix with a knife until dough comes away from sides. Add more flour if too wet.
2.Turn out onto a floured surface and knead lightly. Cut in half and shape into a 10cm round loaf. Bake for 20 minutes, until hollow-sounding when tapped. Serve with cheese, chutney, meat and pickles.
