1.Using a vegetable peeler, peel pears leaving stems intact. In a medium saucepan, place pears in boiling water. Add cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of sweetener. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, covered, for 15 minutes or until pears are tender when tested with a skewer. Remove from heat; add essence. Set aside to cool.
2.Combine custard powder, cocoa powder and remaining sweetener in a small saucepan. Add a little of the milk to mix, whisking to a smooth paste. Gradually stir in remaining milk until smooth. Cook, stirring, 2 minutes or until mixture boils and thickens. Pour into a heatproof jug.
3.To serve, place pears in shallow bowls. Stir sauce, then spoon over pears.
