Method

1.In a medium saucepan, combine rice, milk, cream and sugar. Cover and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until rice is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
2.POACHED PEARS: Meanwhile, combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan (ensuring pears are covered). Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and gently simmer, covered, for 30-35 minutes, until tender.
3.Stir chocolate through hot rice until melted and smooth. Serve rice and pears topped with whipped cream and chocolate curls.

If you like, keep the poaching liquid to make a syrup. Remove pears and return to stove top on medium-high heat. Simmer for 20 minutes until liquid is reduced and syrupy.
