Red wine beef and onion burger

A creative twist to an old favourite that even the kids will enjoy. Barbecue sauce can replace red wine sauce, if you prefer.

Method

1.Heat oil in a medium frying pan on high. Saute onion and garlic 2-3 minutes. until tender. Cool slightly.
2.In a large bowl combine mince, breadcrumbs, onion mixture, sauce and egg. Mix well and season to taste. Shape into 8 even-sized, flattened patties. Arrange on tray. Cover and chill until required.
3.Heat oil in a large frying pan on medium. Cook patties in two batches for 5-6 minutes each side until cooked through. Drain on paper towel. Keep warm.
4.ONION RINGS: Meanwhile. heat oil in a heavy-based saucepan on high. Dip onion rings into egg and dust with flour. Fry in batches for 20-30 seconds or until crisp and golden. Drain on paper towel.
5.Spread rolls with sauce. Fill with spinach, patties and onions. Serve with pickles and extra sauce.

Look for red-wine sauce in the condiment aisle of your supermarket or use barbecue sauce instead. Makes 8
